NC Network Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Taito-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Uchihara Yasuo), which operates the manufacturing business matching platform "EMIDAS," held the "FBC ASEAN 2024" in Bangkok from May 15th to May 18th, 2024 to support Japanese companies in expanding their business in Thailand.
The Thai government announced an EV development plan in 2021, setting a goal of EVs accounting for 30% of total automobile production by 2030, and is promoting the shift to EVs. The number of registered BEVs (battery-powered electric vehicles) in fiscal year 2011 was about 76,000, about eight times the previous year, and as a result, Japanese manufacturers' share of sales, which had previously accounted for 85%, has fallen to about 75%. In this market environment, many Japanese companies in Thailand are aiming to penetrate Chinese EV manufacturers and expand sales channels to local Thai companies. (Reference: Announcement by the Federation of Thai Industries) Against this background, NC Network held this business matching event with the aim of matching Japanese companies with Chinese manufacturers and local Thai companies, creating opportunities for Japanese companies to enter the Thai EV market, and contributing to Japanese companies with high technological capabilities entering new markets by cooperating with Thai manufacturing.
Seven Chinese EV manufacturers, including BYD, which plan to manufacture in Thailand from 2025, exhibited as buyers. The number of visitors increased by 2,000 from the previous year to 44,773, and a total of 916 business meetings (estimated sales amount: 415,593,286 THB) were held over the four days. Among them, Chinese EV manufacturers were actively looking for suppliers, and many Japanese exhibitors said that they were able to acquire many cases that progressed to concrete business negotiations. And this business meeting cooperated with the Thai Subcontractors Association to promote matching between Thai local companies and Japanese companies. More than 100 excellent local companies exhibited in the subcontractor area, and Japanese companies were actively matched with local companies. In addition, Thai Prime Minister Seta visited the opening ceremony. He spoke about the "technical capabilities of Japanese companies" and his expectations for "Chinese companies with expanding investment," and the attention of FBC as a business meeting where Chinese EV manufacturers can be matched was increased. FBC is scheduled to be held in Bangkok next year. As the movement towards EV production in Thailand accelerates, the aim is to contribute to the development of the Thai manufacturing industry and economy by strengthening matching between Chinese EV manufacturers and Japanese companies, as well as between Thai local companies aiming to enter industries other than the automotive industry, which have a challenge in terms of "technical capabilities," and Japanese companies with high technical capabilities.
